Aycliffe Care Home is situated in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, just a five minute walk away from the town centre.
We receive a lot of very positive feedback about the warm and friendly greeting we give to visitors – we’re well known for our generous hospitality!
Our staff engage in a very honest and natural way with the residents. They really care about them. They always make sure they look presentable – that the ladies have their make-up on and their clothing and accessories match, that the gents are shaved and their hair combed. When members of staff pass the residents they’re always very positive and affectionate, and at the same time treating them with respect and dignity.
We have a full-time Activities Co-ordinator who keeps the residents active. We have a film club. The local church does a weekly listening service. We have a resident committee which produces a newsletter. One resident recently asked if we could have a band as entertainment, instead of just a singer: agreed! Another wanted apple pie back on the menu: also agreed!
There’s plenty going on outside the Home as well. Residents often get a taxi into town so they can shop, go to a café, the library, the leisure centre, or perhaps to the ice cream parlour. We have regular trips out to places like the petting zoos, and also to the Beamish museum, where we sometimes book a slot at the reminiscence cottage for the residents. And, for those residents who like a quiet drink with friends and family, we have the Jolly Carer ‘pub’. It’s a lovely, bright room with a bar in the corner. While they’re enjoying a drink, patrons can play darts, have a card game or just sit and watch the TV. What’s not to like!
