The Pom-Pom Tree

Thursday, 15 December 2016

Talk &Listen Support Worker, Rita Clark, who works at Bridge View Care Home, run by Akari Care, recently started a Pom-Pom club.  Around the same time she started, a married couple Doreen and Jack Winn came to live in the Home.  Rita spent a lot of time with the couple to help them settle in to their new surroundings and they became very close.

Doreen and Jack often attended the activities that Rita runs within the home with the help of Helen Mitchell (Activities Coordinator). It was during one of the arts and crafts sessions that the idea of the Pom-Pom club came to light.  From that moment Doreen and Jack spent hours making the pom-poms, which helped to keep them active, maintain their manual dexterity and encourage social interaction.

As Christmas drew closer, Rita had an idea to cover a Christmas Tree in the pom-poms that had been made. Rita and Helen’s role within the Home helps the residents to build a close and trusting relationship and give them a confidante.  Everyone who visits the Home comments on the pom-pom tree and how good it looks.

Thanks to Doreen and Jack, with Rita and Helen’s support, the Home looks very festive, and we look forward to a second version next year. Home Manager Ann Mielnik is very proud of all the staffs’ achievements within Bridge View.
