Dene Park Care Home is situated in South Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne.

We have a low staff turnover and a team of passionate and dedicated staff.  Visitors to our Home are always greeted with a smile, and offered a cup of tea or coffee, no matter what their visit is about.  We want them to get a good first impression, to make them feel comfortable, particularly if they are looking for a Care Home for their loved ones, which is often a traumatic time for a family.  In these cases we take them round the Home and introduce them to our Carers, the residents and, whenever possible, their families.

Our residents are very active.  Our Activities Co-ordinator offers a wide range of activities every day: arts & crafts, armchair exercises, games, a knitting club, recall and reminiscence, pamper days, cinema matinees, group activities and 1-2-1 sessions, as well as regular visits from singers, when residents often join in! A Hairdresser attends weekly.  We have trips out, to places such as the famous Beamish outdoor museum, which everyone thoroughly enjoys.   A local dance class comes in, as well as a theatre group who perform pantomimes.   We’re next door to a very nice pub, the Victory, which is used regularly by some of our residents.  We also have our own bar – one gentleman uses it every day when he has a whiskey with his son.

We have, a resident forum, and residents get involved in the running of the Home.  We have a lady who likes to lay the tables for meals, and a gentleman who loves to hoover.  It’s their home, after all!

We’ve started having Pamper Days for ladies, when they can ‘glam up’, and we have a similar thing for the men.

We are proud of our re-decoration of the home, and our residents staff and visitors love the new contemporary, fresh, clean look.

We are currently building community links with charitable organisations and support groups, so watch this space for some exciting new opportunities for our residents, their families and our local community.

We are all looking forward to the royal wedding and plan (weather permitting) to have a good old fashioned street party and knees up!

We are also promoting restful sleep and time orientation.  This is done by our staff wearing night attire to promote time and place orientation to those residents who are confused during the night and unable to distinguish times.  This has been successful, and will continue to promote best practice.

“The atmosphere in Dene Park makes me want to run back to work! I have great job satisfaction.“
